From the period of time when the Nashville station WLAC sold overnight airtime to 3rd party religious groups and legendary DJ Bill "Hossman" Allen had a gospel music show. Polio outbreaks in the United States in the summer of 1946 were at an all-time high. In Minneapolis, Minnesota there was a voluntary quarantine - and with no newspaper delivery boys there was no Sunday Funnies. Mayor (and future Vice President) Hubert H. Humphrey came to the rescue and read the Sunday comics over WCCO (and did a pretty good job).
